無意味な情報のこんな見分け方「優秀な人は多趣味」だからなに？
たしかに情報は無数にあります。
あまり意味がない情報を見分けられるといいですね。
本記事でご紹介するタイプの情報は、有益に見えます。
しかしほとんど意味を持ちません。
「Ａの人は、Ｂである（Ｂをしている）」というタイプの情報です。
Ａになるのは大変で、Ｂは簡単なことです。
例えば「優秀な人は多趣味な人が多い」という情報です。
この情報を見て、多趣味になろうと思った方はキケンです。

例えば、こんな例を考えてみましょう。
✓優秀な人が３人いて、多趣味が２人、多趣味でない人が１人
これなら①は正しいですね。
しかし、
✓優秀でない人が４人いて、多趣味が３人、多趣味でない人が１人
これらの人を集めてみるとどうなるか？（縦に見てください）
多趣味な人の５人のうち、優秀な人は２人で少ない！
これはなにも特殊な例を挙げたわけではありません。
（あの感染症時代の検査でもこの数字のトリックが使われた）
シンプルに、①が正しくても逆の②は正しいとは限らない！
そう覚えてもいいです。
■（２）なぜ無意味な情報が多いのか？
「優秀な人は多趣味」と言われても、だからなに？なんです。
優秀になるには、多趣味にではなく、優秀になるしかありません（笑）
優秀になった結果、多趣味になるということなのでしょうね。
ではなぜそんな無意味な情報が多いのか？
✓アクセス集め（多趣味なら簡単そうと誤解させてアクセス集め）
「情報の波」というのは実は大したことないのかも知れません。
例えば、夏のお天気ニュースは「暑い」「豪雨」「台風」だけです（笑）
見なくていい情報を知っておけば、波に溺れにくくなります！

How to Spot Meaningless Information: "High Achievers Have Many Hobbies"—So What?
People often talk about "drowning in a sea of information."
It is true that there is an endless amount of information out there.
It would be great to be able to distinguish information that lacks real meaning.
The type of information I’m introducing in this article *looks* useful.
But in reality, it holds almost no meaning.
It’s the kind of information that follows the pattern: "People who are A are B" (or "do B").
Being "A" is difficult, whereas doing "B" is easy.
For example, consider the statement: "Many high achievers have a wide range of hobbies."
If you see this and decide to take up multiple hobbies, you’re in danger.
You’re the type likely to drown in that sea of information!

■ (1) Why "Many high achievers have a wide range of hobbies" is meaningless
① "Many high achievers have a wide range of hobbies."
② "Many people with a wide range of hobbies are high achievers."
① and ② mean completely different things.
If you see ① and aim to have many hobbies, you are mistakenly equating ① with ②.
Let’s look at an example.
✓ Imagine there are 3 high achievers: 2 have many hobbies, and 1 does not.
In this case, statement ① is correct.
However, consider this:
✓ Imagine there are 4 people who are *not* high achievers: 3 have many hobbies, and 1 does not.
What happens when we look at these groups together? (Read this vertically)
Out of the 5 people with many hobbies, only 2 are high achievers—that’s a small number!
This isn't some obscure, special case.
(This same numerical trick was used in testing data during the recent pandemic.)
Simply put: just because ① is true, it doesn't mean the reverse—②—is also true!
That’s a good rule of thumb to remember.
■ (2) Why is there so much meaningless information?
Even if someone tells you "High achievers have many hobbies," the question remains: so what? To become exceptional, you don't simply cultivate many hobbies; you have to actually become exceptional (haha).
I suppose having many hobbies is something that happens *as a result* of becoming exceptional.
So, why is there so much meaningless information out there?
✓ To drive traffic (misleading people into thinking having many hobbies makes success look easy)
✓ Writer self-promotion (showcasing that the writer is both exceptional and has many hobbies)
✓ Presenting a one-sided view based on the premise that "many hobbies = exceptional"
Perhaps this "wave of information" isn't actually such a big deal.
For instance, summer weather reports are just about the heat, heavy rain, and typhoons (haha).
If you can identify which information isn't worth your attention, you’ll be less likely to drown in that wave!
