It can feel a bit embarrassing to be the only one moved by something, right?
Seeing comments like "Wonderful," "It made me cry," or "The person who came up with this concept is a genius!"
...made me feel reassured (lol).
■ Can You Get a Patent for a "Concept"?
So, can you get a patent for the "concept" behind this event?
Personally, whenever I encounter an idea, I instinctively think about patents.
To begin with, the category of "concept" itself is not eligible for a patent.
However, as I’ve written on this blog before:
✓ Most ideas can become eligible for a patent in some form!
✔ If there is a "thing" (physical object) absolutely essential to the concept
→ You could aim for a patent as an "invention of a product."
✔ If there are unique features in the exchange of information via computer or the billing method
→ You could aim for a patent as a "business model."
✔ You could also aim for a patent as an "invention of a process" or an "invention of a production method."
In the case of "1000-Person ROCK FES. GUNMA," for example:
✔ How do you gather 1,000 people?
✔ How do you assign participants based on the instruments they can play?
✔ Do you vary the participation fee based on the instrument type or skill level?
...and so on.
It might be possible to aim for a patent as a business model.
■ I Want to Patent a "Concept"!
The category of "concept" itself is not eligible for a patent. The "1000-Person ROCK FES. GUNMA" event, for instance, contributes significantly to economic development.
There was previously an initiative called "Taste-Test and Vote for Your Favorite Hamburger!"
I had a similar thought when I first encountered that project.
"If an idea is truly brilliant, shouldn't it be shared with the world rather than monopolized through a patent?"
Some might argue exactly that.
However, the fundamental purpose of the patent system is:
"Let’s advance industry by encouraging everyone to share their ideas!"
The underlying concept is: release an idea to the public, and in exchange, receive exclusive rights for a set period.
Patents are an effective way to incentivize people to bring their ideas out into the world.
